London | Escaping ‘The Grid”
If you were to walk up Robinson Road in London, England, you would not see anywhere that really stood out. Just a few office buildings and a bar/restaurant at the end of this elevated street. However, if you had booked in advance, you would know that one of these office buildings is a drinking/escape room experience known as ‘The Grid.’
The Grid is referenced on their website as an interactive ‘Black Mirror.’ My sister and I booked the experience in advance on their website and then arrived 20 minutes early. There is no waiting room, so we had to wait in the restaurant at the end of the street until our start time.
Once we arrived, the experience immediately starts as an employee for a start-up known as Neosight issued us new employees our silver jackets and asked if we prefer vodka or rum. I would like to point out that there are non-alcoholic options, which my sister took advantage of. What Neosight does not know is that you are undercover operatives there to shut their evil corporation down.
I do not want to give too much away about the experience. I will say we played through this experience with four other young adults (one which was thankfully good at math), there is drinking involved in the puzzles (which again, can be non-alcoholic), and there are multiple rooms you need to escape. We had to create vials of experimental antidotes and test potions out of our drinks throughout in the first challenge which played into the story.
I highly recommend this. It was so refreshing to experience something so unique instead of a normal bar or escape room. Combining them into an epic sci-fi interactive story was awesome.
Tips
There is a slide between 2 of the rooms, so I would recommend not wearing a dress and wearing comfortable shoes, not heels. You cannot show up already intoxicated and you need to be on time for your reservation as it will start exactly at the foretold time. There is a place to put bags and coats when you arrive as well.
And remember you are undercover. Nobody likes the person that breaks the immersion, and it is plain impolite to the staff.
